Since January 18, 2024, the STIKO (Standing Committee on Vaccination at the Robert Koch Institute) has recommended vaccination against group B meningococcal disease for all children under 5 years of age. The vaccine (Bexsero) has been approved in Germany from the age of 2 months since 2013 and has been classified as safe by the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Meningococcal disease is very rare, but can lead to serious, permanent damage or, in many cases, death very quickly. We consider vaccination against group B meningococcal disease to be very useful for all children and adolescents and recommend prompt implementation, especially for young infants from the age of 2 months. We have been carrying out the vaccination in our practice for many years with good results. At the moment, it is not yet possible for us to bill statutory health insurance companies directly for the vaccination. Many health insurance companies will cover the costs, even if you have to pay in advance. We will inform you as soon as we are able to bill health insurance companies directly for the vaccination.
